曹洞宗の由緒ある古刹で、宝鏡寺の楼門は大伽藍の三（山）門を思わせる風格。八脚門の二層造、平面は三間一戸の形式をとり、高さ14ｍ、正面の桁行9.2ｍ、側面の梁間5.6ｍの素木造、屋根は入母屋造茅葺。宝暦年間（1751～1764年）に建造されました。軒は軒支輪を備えた二軒繁垂木、三手先斗によって支えられ、上層には床を貼り、廻縁や勾欄を付けた重厚な構造には、地方的な素朴さながらも江戸時代中期の寺社建築の特徴が見られます。規模では宮城県内随一の大楼門です。
