黒潮（暖流）と親潮（寒流）が出合い、時に海霧を発生させる気仙沼沖の太平洋。詩人、彫刻家で知られる高村光太郎は、昭和6年8月15日、時事新報の委嘱による「三陸廻り」の紀行文のために気仙沼・唐桑半島を訪れ、唐桑沖の船中からの景観を名詩「霧の中の決意」と題して同年10月に発表しました。その詩に添えられた短歌「黒潮は親潮をうつ親潮はさ霧をたてゝ船にせまれり」が、唐桑半島の先端部、御崎にある文学碑に刻まれています。
