気仙沼大島北東端の対岸、唐桑半島の西側の付け根にある長さ230ｍ幅15ｍの小さな砂浜です。砂が乾いている時に踏むと「クックッ」と鳴ることから名付けられたと言われています。その音の秘密は砂の中に含まれている細かい石英の粒。それが擦れる時、音を出しているのです。鳴砂は学術的にも貴重で平成２３年には国の天然記念物に指定されています。降雨などで鳴砂を体験できない場合、唐桑半島ビジターセンターの紹介コーナーでもその音を聞くことができます。
