気仙沼市の南部、南三陸町との境界上に位置する標高512ｍの山です。古くから修験の山として有名で、奥州藤原氏が信仰した霊山とも伝えられています。それを裏付けるように、山頂付近にある経塚群からは藤原氏が納めたという青銅製の経筒と経巻（法華経）が発見されました。ツツジの名所としても知られ、毎年5月中旬から6月上旬の満開の時期には、赤やオレンジの鮮やかな装いをまといます。山頂から望める太平洋の大パノラマが素晴らしいビュースポットです。
